PLATINISED MOLYBDENUM CRUCIBLE
|
We are manufacturing anodes and platinum coatings at the customer’s request. Corrosion-resistant refractory metals such as Niobium, Molybdenum and Tantalum are used as base material due to their very high resistance in corrosive mediums.
Platinised Molybdenum Crucible is being used as container for oxidizing slag at high temperature. The crucibles will be used to measure the viscosity of steel making slag at temperatures of 1500 - 1650°C. These slags contain two or more components of the system CaO-SiO2-FeO-Fe2O3-MgO-Al2O3-MnO-P2O5-TiO2-Cr2O3-CaF2.
Use of Molybdenum provides strength at high temperature, thermal stability and resistance to dimensional distortion. However, the FeO, Fe2O3 and MnO contained in the slag would corrode Molybdenum due to the high oxygen affinity of the latter.
The Platinum layer stops direct contact between the oxidizing species & Molybdenum, and thus helps to prevent corrosion of the Molybdenum components. Mechanical strength and stability at high temperature is provided by the Molybdenum base. The layer of Platinum in contact with the slag provides resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
Platinized molybdenum wires and ribbons are also manufactured by us for the lighting industry.
